A little flower care for warm Philippine days
Simple habits that help cut flowers stay comfortable, hydrated and lovely in warm weather.

Fresh flowers bring a lovely feeling to a room. In the warm conditions common across the Philippines, a little attention to water, placement and cleanliness can help you enjoy them for longer. Different flowers have different needs, so follow any specific instructions included with your arrangement.
Start with a clean vase
For cut flowers that are not already arranged in a vessel, use a clean vase and fresh water. Remove leaves that would sit below the water line. If flower food is provided, use it as directed on its packaging rather than guessing the amount.
Choose a comfortable spot
Keep flowers away from direct afternoon sun, hot appliances and strong drafts. A cool, shaded space is generally kinder to cut flowers than a bright window that heats up during the day. Keep arrangements away from ripening fruit as well.
Pay attention to water
Check the water regularly and refresh it when it becomes cloudy. For a basket or floral-foam arrangement, ask your florist how to top up the water without disturbing the design. Do not let the supporting material dry out.
Handle stems thoughtfully
If your florist recommends trimming the stems, use a clean, sharp tool. Remove fading flowers gently, taking care not to pull apart the rest of the arrangement. Avoid moving flowers repeatedly between very different temperatures.
Ask when you are unsure
Care instructions for cut flowers do not necessarily apply to potted plants. If you are unsure what kind of arrangement you received, send us a photograph and ask for advice.
